Hardware Systems Engineer / Architect (San Jose)

In the role as Hardware System Architect you will actively participate in concept development and design ideation of cutting-edge technologies with our customer. You will perform various tasks and lead the definition and convergence of unique sub-systems and product architectures with the aim of pushing the boundaries and create state of the art products. These will include new sensing systems, display/optics systems, acoustic systems, input devices, and full product structure. The role requires expert technical communication with cross-functional teams across ID, hardware engineering, partnerships, supply chain and core technology groups to drive incubation of new technologies from proof of concept through integration into products for mass production. A good understanding of the different software areas for embedded systems is also highly appreciated. This role requires excellent technical understanding of consumer electronics across the whole stack and based on the very tight collaboration with other disciplines and stakeholders’ strong social skills are essential.


  • Partner with research, core technology, hardware, and supply chain teams to create component and module requirements.

  • Collaborate in a team environment across hardware and software engineering disciplines

  • Organize the development of full-fledged incubation and demonstration prototypes on

    the path to the architectural definition.

  • Work closely with different vendors for future consumer products and proof of concepts

  • Own system architectures encompassing compute, optics, EE, sensors, calibration, and

    firmware from initial conception through prototyping and production ramp.

  • Coordinate with team leads to progressively integrate the new technologies into

    prototype architectures

  • Communicate trade-offs, program concerns and technical direction.


  • Minimum BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 8+ years hands on experience with hardware system design and development

  • Experience with architecture and systems engineering across electrical, firmware,

    mechanical, audio and optical systems

  • Hands-on experience from development of wearables within consumer industry

  • Experience in system wide rapid prototyping and proof of concept work

  • Eager and to learn new platforms, technologies, tools and coding languages

  • Experience working with partnerships teams and external partners at both a supply base

    and product level

  • Experience providing product feedback in addition to technical feedback on engineering

    and design work

  • At least basic skills in C/C++ and Java

  • Self-motivated and flexible to switch context.

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Team player
