Experienced Tax Manager – Lead & Grow at a Boutique Firm in UTC!

One of San Diego’s leading boutique tax and advisory firms is seeking an Experienced Tax Manager to take ownership of the tax practice and help lead the firm into its next phase of growth. The firm is expanding through both organic growth and acquisition, offering the chance to make a lasting impact while working alongside a collaborative, hands-on CPA founder. Your technical expertise, leadership, and client-management skills will directly shape the firm’s future.

Who you are:

  • CPA or EA required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 10+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting

  • Experience managing and reviewing the work of staff and seniors

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations and planning strategies

  • Proficient in ProConnect, Lacerte, and Excel

  • Strong communicator and mentor who thrives in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee preparation and review of complex tax returns (individual, partnership, S-Corp, C-Corp, trust, HNW)

  • Provide advanced tax planning and advisory support for business owners and high-net-worth clients

  • Lead, mentor, and review the work of staff and senior accountants

  • Manage client relationships with proactive communication and trusted advisory guidance

  • Drive process improvement, workflow optimization, and software utilization as the firm scales

  • Partner closely with the founder on firm operations, business strategy, and selective business development

  • Ensure compliance, accuracy, and audit readiness across all engagements

What does this position pay?

Compensation is determined by several factors which may include skillset, qualifications/certifications, experience level, and geographic location.

The expected range for this role is $120K–$150K, annualized base compensation, with additional compensation components. Please note this range is an estimate and actual may vary based on qualifications and experience.
