Payroll Manager

Payroll Manager | $50–$60/hr | Temporary | Onsite, San Diego, CA
Our client is looking for a Payroll Manager to support payroll operations, compliance, and cross?functional coordination within a fast?paced environment. You’ll oversee day?to?day processing, guide a Payroll Administrator, and ensure payroll accuracy while contributing to broader finance activities. Who You Are:

• 8+ years of experience managing full?cycle, multi?state payroll in a high?volume environment
• Strong understanding of California wage and hour requirements
• Proficiency with payroll and ERP systems, including experience using Paylocity and Workday
• Skilled in Excel, including ability to build and manage advanced, logic?driven spreadsheets
• Strong analytical mindset with experience resolving payroll discrepancies and ensuring compliance

What You’ll Do:

• Oversee end?to?end payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to internal controls
• Manage off?cycle activities such as final pay, adjustments, corrections, and special payments
• Ensure compliance with federal and state payroll regulations, including withholding and reporting
• Review and support tax filings, reconciliations, and jurisdictional registrations as needed
• Partner with HR and Benefits teams to ensure accurate deductions, leave?related pay, and employee support
• Prepare payroll journal entries, assist with monthly close, and maintain organized documentation
• Identify process improvements, strengthen controls, and support audit and reporting activities
• Provide guidance to the Payroll Administrator while stepping in for complex or escalated issues
